Dr. Jamil El Jaroudi  -  Partner

Since July 2016, Dr. El Jaroudi has directed his efforts towards supporting investors in the establishing of Islamic banks in Europe, Africa and Asia. These banks, if not the first in their regions, will be at least among the first with an objective to provide a professional banking alternative to millions of Muslims and non-Muslims and as well to bridge the international hubs of Europe, Middle East, South East Asia and the CIS countries.

Dr. El Jaroudi started his experience in the Gulf region in the 1970s as a consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), after which he held various senior executive positions with the large conglomerate; Al Mawarid Group in KSA.

In 1996 he co-established the Middle East Capital Group (MECG) in Lebanon, the region’s first merchant bank with a pan-Arab focus. Subsequent to this and as a result to his commitment to Islamic Finance Dr. El Jaroudi sold his shares in MECG in 1999 and assumed senior positions with Dar Al Mal Al Islami of Geneva (DMI Trust), the Islamic Investment Company of the Gulf (IICG) and Shamil Bank. In addition, Dr. El Jaroudi played a pivotal role in the establishment of Arab Finance House (AFH) in Lebanon and its successful operations for over 3 years before being appointed Chief Executive Officer of Elaf Bank in Bahrain, during its start-up phase. In April 2012 and till end of June 2016, Dr. El Jaroudi was the first chief Executive Officer of Bank Nizwa, the first Islamic Bank in Oman which since its start was leading the Islamic Finance industry in Oman and set the standards required to provide a comprehensive Islamic finance solution.

Dr. El Jaroudi holds an MBA from Columbia University in New York and a PhD in Finance from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in Illinois, USA. In addition to his posts in NGOs and charitable organizations, he is a Board member of the Beirut Islamic University, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lebanese American University, LAU Institute of Family Businesses and a member of the Governing Council of INCEIF, the Global University of Islamic Finance in Malaysia. Dr. El Jaroudi was invited to join the Global Islamic Financial Investment Group chaired by the UK Minister Rt Hon. Baroness Warsi with the objective to develop the Islamic finance industry in the United Kingdom and help UK issue its first sovereign sukuk.

Considered an authority in the Islamic Finance industry, Dr. El Jaroudi continues to be involved in many seminars, forums and training programs on Islamic Finance delivering speeches and sitting on panel discussions across the Arab world, South East Asia, Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States and the USA.

Just recently, Dr El Jaroudi was appointed as a Board of Trustee Member to the newly established prize; the “Arab Investor Award for outstanding achievements” and a Board member to the newly formed fin-tech company Finocracy; which will sponsor, support and help new ventures to grow in the fin-tech field.

Most of the companies led by Dr. El Jaroudi were awarded different prizes such as Best Run Organizations, Best IT Systems, Best Web Sites, and most importantly Best Care Taker of its employees.

In recognition of his contributions, Dr. El Jaroudi was named ‘Islamic Finance Personality of the Year’ at the 4th Annual Global Islamic Finance Awards 2014.

Tarek has more than 24 years of experience in the Real Estate Development, Construction and Engineering industries. He has been providing environmental consulting and risk management advisory services to developers, real estate property owners, assets investors, and public agencies throughout the world (USA, UAE, KSA, Qatar, Oman, Iraq, Lebanon, West Africa, and France). Tarek integrates environmental risk management with land use planning and sustainable development to meet the needs and objectives of diverse clients and stakeholders for residential, commercial, and industrial real estate, in urban and rural environment.

 

Tarek has participated and managed the remediation and reuse of contaminated properties for over 24 years. He has performed, directed, and overseen environmental investigations and remedial actions at petroleum and chlorinated solvent spill sites, fuel farms, refineries, former manufactured gas, landfills, and a variety of residential, commercial and industrial settings. Tarek utilizes his technical expertise as well as his leadership and management skills to direct and oversee teams of professionals for the successful completion of these complex projects.

 

Tarek’s major involvement in US projects includes LIRR/MTA East Side Access, Columbia University Manhattanville Expansion, Bayside Fuel Oil Depot Corporation remediation, Long Island College Hospital development, New York Jets Training Facility at Florham Park, LCP Chemicals Superfund Site, and FAA Technical Center Area D Jet Fuel Farm.

 

While overseas, Tarek managed a multitude of land development related projects in Africa, France, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, UAE, and Lebanon.

 

Tarek is currently the owner and CEO of HydroTech Environmental Engineering and Geology. HydroTech, with its 22 employees, is a 17-year-old full-service environmental consulting, engineering and contracting firm with ongoing projects in the USA, GCC region and the Middle East.

 

Tarek is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, and Virginia.

Omar Solh -  Founder and Partner

Omar Solh grew up in Lebanon and later relocated to Ontario and New York where he completed both his Undergraduate and Graduate studies in Architecture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York City. 

International Project Development, Architectural Design and Site Supervision have been Omar's focus since graduating from Pratt Institute in 1993 as he has delivered aesthetic, practical architectural, renewable energy and project development solutions to his clients and particularly throughout Middle East and North America.

Omar's designs have been developed and delivered for clients in Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Morocco, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Beirut, New York, New Jersey and Ontario.  SDW's corporate inception as a Limited Liability Company came to fruition in 2003 and has been active since in architectural design and project development opportunities. Recently, Omar began developing initial architectural and urban design concepts in Istanbul, Baku and Doha. Completed projects with former employers (to name a few) range from amusement parks in Tunisia and Morocco to high end residential designs, interior design & management of multi-use commercial development in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and pharmaceutical building and envelope design and production in East Hanover New Jersey.  KFF and Novartis alone constituted an estimated construction cost of well over $1 Billion US.  

Solh Design Workshop  has been incorporated as Limited Liability Company  .  SDW is presently based in Princeton, New Jersey and  New York City. Currently, the firm has satellite operations in Beirut, Dubai and Toronto.   Our latest design of High Rise projects have been delivered in Abu Dhabi, Baku, Beirut, Doha, Dubai, Istanbul Riyadh, New Jersey, New York and Toronto and with over 100 schematic and detailed designs, SDW is a leading concept developer of High Rise Buildings with adaptive use of vertical public space and performance.
